The Boston Red Sox are back in first place after a 7-1 win over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday. With the Tampa Rays slumping, losing five games in a row, the Sox nabbed a timely win over the Royals to move into first place with a record of 43-28. With the Rays only a half-game behind the Sox will look to widen the gap with a win over the Royals on Sunday.
Look on the bright side, Royals fans: we won’t be thinking “gee, that 11-game losing streak really sunk our playoff hopes because they played pretty well outside of that,” because the Royals have decidedly not played better outside of that streak. Baseball-Reference puts the Royals’ playoff odds at 0.3% now, which, if anything, seems high.
Jarren Duran took his father’s advice and hit the gym. That advice, plus a swing change, has drastically changed his career and made him not only one of the best prospects in the Red Sox system but one of the better prospects in all of baseball. Happy Father’s Day.
