Progress on a CBA isn’t expected until at least the weeks before pitchers and catchers are set to report, meaning another mad dash is probably in store for teams trying to fill out their rosters ahead of spring training. This year’s free agent class was headlined by a star quintet of shortstops, but three of them signed big-money deals last week — Seager, Marcus Semien (Rangers) and Javier Báez (Tigers).

    Nolan Ryan's Texas Rangers Contract Up for Auction

    Nolan Ryan’s final contract with the Texas Rangers is up for auction through Dec. 16 through an online auction at Huggins & Scott Auctions. The significance of the contract is that it features the signatures of both Ryan and then-Rangers managing general partner George W. Bush, who went on to become the governor of Texas and the 43rd President of the United States. The auction began at $5,000, and as of Dec. 7, there was one bid.

    In order to do so, the club had to create room by designating Billy McKinney and Zach Reks for assignment While it was possible for both players to remain in the organization if they cleared waivers, McKinney and Reks were eventually traded to the Texas Rangers for cash considerations. McKinney has since been non-tendered by the Rangers, but it appears Reks will remain with the club going forward.
