MLB umpiring has been a controversial topic in recent seasons, and calls that have been made already in 2024 have only added fuel to that fire. Additionally, as technological advances continue to be tested in the minor leagues, the conversation about umpires potentially becoming obsolete remains a real possibility. Many have shared their opinions on how games have been called this year, particularly behind home plate where balls and strikes have been all over the place. New York Yankees legendary first baseman Tino Martinez shared his thoughts on the matter.
Back in spring training, The Daily News asked different members of the Yankees organization which under-the-radar prospects had grabbed their attention prior to the team's inaugural Spring Breakout game. Nick Swisher, now a special assistant with the team, took some time to think about his answer before circling back. “Agustín Ramírez, bro!” Swisher said with his signature enthusiasm. The catching prospect had caught the former first baseman and outfielder's eye with his “raw power.”
