Jun. 9—That repeatable, crisp, allaround game that the Cardinals are capable of playing and showed during their steadying stretch of last month helped them find footing against the Rockies. Premium Content is available to subscribers only.
Alec Burleson homered, Masyn Winn drove in two runs and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Colorado Rockies 5-1 on Sunday for a split in the teams' four-game series. “If we stick to it and keep playing our kind of baseball, we should be good," Winn said. Rookie catcher Pedro Pagés knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly, singled and scored twice for the Cardinals, who won for just the third time in 10 games.
After several days of internal discussion and several games of waiting to see who was needed and when out of the bullpen, the Cardinals reached Sunday without naming a starter for the series finale. Pallante was revealed as the game's starter by manager Oliver Marmol early Sunday morning. Pallante is coming off a difficult start in Houston that saw the Astros stack the right-handed batters against him and challenge the improvements and changes Pallante has tried to make as a starter. In two starts since returning from Class AAA Memphis, Pallante authored six shutout innings and a win at Cincinnati, and then he had the six runs allowed on six hits and three walks in three innings at Houston.
