Alejandro Kirk's first homer of the year lifts Blue Jays over Dodgers 3-1

Kirk went 3 for 3 at the plate and hit his first home run of the season to lead the Toronto Blue Jays past the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 on Sunday to snap a five-game losing skid. “To tell you the truth, I didn't even know I was going 0 for 11,” explained Kirk through a translator. Daulton Varsho and Isiah Kiner-Falefa had back-to-back groundouts in the second inning to score runners for Toronto (14-15) before Kirk hit his first homer of the season 381 feet.

Are two catchers better than one? The Blue Jays think so, and are happy to have Danny Jansen back

The Blue Jays' catching situation has been a noticeable weakness through the first few weeks of the season. With the return of Danny Jansen, it should once again be a strength. The Jays have received more production out of the catcher's position than any team in baseball over the last couple of years. The duo of Alejandro Kirk and Jansen have combined to post well-above average numbers with the bat and, arguably, have been more valuable behind the plate.

Bassitt gets 2nd straight victory as Blue Jays win 3-1, hand Yankees first back-to-back losses

Chris Bassitt pitched into the seventh inning to win his second straight start, Alejandro Kirk reached base three times and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Yankees 3-1 on Monday night, handing New York consecutive losses for the first time this season. “We are not happy about it, but it happened,” said infielder Oswaldo Cabrera, who drove in New York's only run. New York (12-5) lost 8-7 at Cleveland on Sunday when the Guardians scored three runs in the 10th. The Yankees lost a series opener for the second time in six tries, with both defeats coming against the Blue Jays.
