    Gritty offensive performance powers Diamondbacks to 6-4 win

    The Diamondbacks managed to take a huge series finale against the Detroit Tigers by a score of 6-4 in a game of pitching attrition. An early afternoon getaway day for the Dbacks turned into an offensive game early, as the snakes jumped on Matt Vierling early. This early offense was powered by Corbin Carroll's 2nd triple in as many games, this one an opposite field blast that nearly left the ball park. Carroll's power was then followed by a rally which included a Marte walk, Joc Pederson RBI double and Christian Walker RBI sac fly.

    Tigers use 6-run inning to topple Diamondbacks

    Wenceel Perez drove in four runs, including a three-run triple, and the visiting Detroit Tigers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-3 on Saturday night. Perez's big hit highlighted a six-run seventh. Javier Baez had four hits, scored two runs and drove in another, while Gio Urshela supplied three hits and an RBI. Jack Flaherty (1-3) gave up two runs in six innings while recording nine strikeouts for his first win as a Tiger.

    Arizona's ascension into baseball's elite during an unexpected run to the World Series was one of baseball's biggest stories last year, when a young Diamondbacks team nearly won the title. The D-backs have a 21-23 record roughly one-quarter through the schedule and sit in third place in the National League West, 7 1/2 games behind the division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers. The 23-year-old Carroll is batting just .193 with two homers and a .539 OPS.
