As a kid, he sat in the stands here to cheer on the Tigers; after being drafted in 2016, he proposed to his wife on the snow-covered turf; he made his big-league debut in 2019; he pitched in front of empty bleachers in the strange COVID-altered 2020 season; and after the Tigers parted ways, he returned as a member of the Boston Red Sox. Now he's with the Kansas City Royals, thrilled to be back home and feeling very much at home with his new team. The Royals (16-10), who lost 106 games in 2023, are one of the surprise teams in baseball. Schreiber, a right-handed reliever now 30 years old and in his sixth big-league season, has played a role in Kansas City's success.
