Aaron Civale came to spring training this year set on re-establishing his love for baseball. On a cold Saturday night at T-Mobile Park, Civale couldn't have enjoyed it much more. “Like I said in spring training, I'm just trying to enjoy the game again,” said Civale. James Karinchak, meanwhile, was bent on redemption.
Shane Bieber, who started the season opener Thursday, worked six scoreless innings in a 3-0 loss to the Mariners. Bieber said he broke from the mound to cover first on a couple of foul balls to right field. “You get back on the mound and there's only 10 seconds left and you haven't gotten your pitch yet,:” said Bieber. Bieber said it's important for a pitcher to recognize the situations he's in when the clock is sprinting toward zero.
