In The Know by Yahoo Honors: Kahlil Greene

Gen Z Historian

Age: 21

Hometown: Germantown, Maryland

Make no mistake, Kahlil Greene is just getting started. Though he is only 21 years old, he’s already served as the student body president at Yale University, been a featured guest on CNN and had a New York Times profile written about him. Greene’s TikTok series, “How Everything on This App Originated with Black People,” has garnered millions of collective views but, more importantly, has shined a necessary spotlight on how Black culture and creativity continue to be co-opted, even in the 21st century. Greene is now working on yet another wildly popular series where he breaks down and explains history and politics for young people. Hence his new moniker, “Gen Z Historian.” Greene says it’s his “lifelong passion to advocate for educational and racial equity.” His inspiring, engaging and educational videos on topics ranging from Black sororities to Martin Luther King Jr. quotes being used to whitewash history are doing just that.
