Holy Cross Catholic High School completes successful year

Jun. 1—MIDLAND — Holy Cross Catholic High School (HCCHS) has celebrated their second graduating class. There were 17 students who graduated from Holy Cross last week, on May 26. Many of these graduates have been with Holy Cross all for years. Four of the 17 graduates have more than just walked the stage for Holy Cross graduation but have also received their associate degree from Odessa College.

"We are once again excited to honor and celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates. These 17 graduates will be some of the first of many young people to call Holy Cross their alma mater. It is our hope that they will take the academic, spiritual, and physical formation they received from HC and go on to change the world. We are so proud of them and cannot wait to follow their continuing accomplishments in higher education and in life. These young people will carry forward the hard work, love, and determination that the staff and HC community have devoted to them." Brad Gibson, HCCHS board president, said in a news release.

Holy Cross has had an exciting year, while continuing to celebrate many "firsts" in the school's history. This was the first year the school participated in the TAPPS conference. They are looking forward to another great year and will be celebrating the completion of the Tomlin Gymnasium this summer. With the completion date for the facility being at the end of July, it will be ready for the students to use this fall.

On May 6, HCCHS hosted their fourth annual Black & Gold Ball, the largest fundraiser for the school. The event grows each year and is the main source of funding for the scholarship fund, for those students who need tuition assistance. Two hundred and fifty people gathered at the event this year and raised $150,000 in scholarships alone.

Two seniors, who have been with HCCHS all four years spoke at the event and shared their experience of Holy Cross. Alejandro Hinojos and Vanessa Ramos gave a testimony of how their time at Holy Cross has impacted them and their future. Both students expressed how they have enjoyed their time at Holy Cross and how they are looking forward to attending college in the fall.

Holy Cross is looking forward to a new school year already and is excited to see increased enrollment for 2023-2024. Admission for '23-'24 is currently open, and the school is continuing to offer tours for those families interested in learning more about Holy Cross this summer.

Last year a student described her time at Holy Cross as "unforgettable" and this year doesn't seem to be any different for Holy Cross students.
