Front and State Street, 1959 Flood

Taken from the Hotel Fremont, this dramatic photograph, courtesy of Richard Stotz, looks south down Front Street during one of the 1959 floods. The proud original facade of the second Buckland Block, built in the 1850s, appears at the right. Harry's was located at that time in the Birchard Block on the southeast corner at the left with the IOOF Hall above. J.C. Penney's can also be seen at the corner of Croghan Street. Only the buildings across Croghan from Woolworth's and beyond are still standing today. (Submitted by Larry Michaels and Krista Michaels)
