Sony sees streaming service Crunchyroll driving growth as anime goes global
Sony sees its anime streaming service Crunchyroll as a growth driver, the head of its movies business said on Thursday, as the group looks to ride the growth of anime outside Japan. "Crunchyroll is going to be our primary growth driver at SPE over next few years," Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) CEO Tony Vinciquerra told a strategy briefing.

VP Harris to address US Air Force Academy graduates
Vice President Kamala Harris will speak at the U.S. Air Force Academy graduation on Thursday in Colorado, her first address at the ceremony that launches cadets into the Air Force or Space Force with pomp and the roar of jets. President Joe Biden spoke last year to graduates, who will become second lieutenants, thanking them for choosing “service over self,” and noting the challenges ahead for the country and the world, from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to America’s rivalry with China. Harris will speak in Falcon Stadium, which can host upwards of 46,000 people, during an election year, as details of a debate between Harris and Donald Trump’s yet-to-be-chosen running mate are being negotiated.

Startup Ursa Major advances US hypersonic capabilities with new engine
Ursa Major, a startup rocket motor maker, has successfully test-fired its new Draper engine more than 50 times on the ground, the company said on Thursday, marking a significant advance in U.S. hypersonic and in-space propulsion technologies. Berthoud, Colorado-based Ursa Major's testing is the latest achievement by U.S. companies scrambling to build more advanced engines for missiles and spacecraft that American officials see as crucial deterrents to threats from adversaries such as hypersonic weapons - those that move more than five times the speed of sound - in and beyond Earth's atmosphere. The Draper engine is also designed for maneuverable spacecraft in Earth's orbit, as geopolitical tensions rise with nations including Russia and China that are enhancing their anti-satellite systems and testing satellites capable of zipping across multiple orbits.
