    A real nut case: Cold Stone Creamery faces suit over lack of real pistachios in pistachio ice cream

    Is it nuts to assume a scoop of pistachio ice cream should contain actual pistachios? A federal judge in New York has given the go-ahead to a Long Island woman's class action lawsuit that claims consumers are being duped by Cold Stone Creamery when they purchase certain flavors that “do not contain their represented ingredients.” Lead plaintiff Jenna Marie Duncan purchased her serving of pistachio ice cream from a Cold Stone Creamery store in Levittown, New York, in or around July 2022.

    Seven charged in smuggling migrants in sweltering secret compartment with little water

    Seven people in southern Texas have been charged after endangering nearly two dozen migrants smuggled in a secret trailer compartment during high temperatures and with little water, authorities said. Following a tip of a smuggling operation, Bexar County Sheriff's Office deputies Thursday morning found 26 migrants in a residence near San Antonio that Sheriff Javier Salazar called a “shack” with holes in the floor and no water. Salazar said he did not know when the migrants crossed the border but believed they were driven to the area from the border city of Laredo, about 160 miles (260 kilometers) away.

    US government wants $37M back from RI for SNAP overpayments, citing UHIP debacle

    The U.S. Department of Agriculture on May 15 sent a letter to Rhode Island’s Department of Human Services, demanding $37.3 million to account for overpayments the state made through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP.
