Dr Pepper’s Newest Flavor Has Throwback Vibes—And It’s in Stores Now

By now, it’s probably been drilled into your head that we all should be drinking less soda. From a purely nutritional standpoint, it’s not such a bad idea. But given how hard the current pandemic has made it to think about the future, I’d say we deserve the occasional beverage treat in order to make the present a bit more bearable.

With that in mind, you might want to know about a new spin on Dr Pepper that’s imbued with some serious throwback vibes. The 23-flavored soda is back with a classic 24th flavor that doesn’t make its way into mainstream sodas all that often these days: cream.

According to Dr Pepper’s website, this marries Dr Pepper’s classic taste with “the richness of cream soda” for a “perfect flavor harmony.” Given that the classic taste already incorporates elements of vanilla and cherry into the mix, it sounds like the cream should slide into the rotation nicely.

The release of the cream soda represents a streak of corn syrup-soaked innovation for Dr Pepper. 2019 saw the launch of a Dark Berry flavor, as well as an ultra-rare Birthday Cake edition. This Dr Pepper and Cream Soda combo seems like much more of a throwback than those two.

There’s one important question, though: how’s it taste? Hell if I know, but Instagrammer @TheJunkFoodAisle rates it a 4.8 out of a possible five stars. Some commenters reiterated that positive review, but at least one Texan (a state where Dr Pepper reigns supreme) noted that this stuff isn’t exactly flying off of store shelves compared to your standard-issue Dr Pepper.

So if you spot this soda in the wild, why not grab it. Life is too short to not figure out what the combination of cream soda and Dr Pepper tastes like.
