Co-founder of burn center hits, kills 2 kids as they cross street, California cops say
Two young boys have died after they were hit by a driver as they crossed a street, according to police and media reports.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department identified the driver as Rebecca Grossman, 57, who is the former publisher of Westlake Magazine and the co-founder and chair of the Grossman Burn Foundation, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.
The boys were crossing the street when they were hit, the sheriff’s department said. One boy died at the scene, while the other died hours later at a local hospital, police said.
A scooter and a set of roller blades were found near the crash site, KABC reported. The two boys, ages 11 and 9, were brothers who were hit “right in front of their parents,” according to KTLA.
Two other children were reportedly pulled out of the way before the others were hit, KTLA reported.
Investigators are considering whether alcohol and street racing were involved in the accident, according to KABC. Grossman has not cooperated with authorities, the news station reported.
Grossman was arrested on two counts of vehicular manslaughter, the sheriff’s department said. Her bail was set at $2 million.
Grossman posted bail and was released on Oct. 1, CBSLA reported.
