Cedar Ridge rehabbing building for alternative school

Cedar Ridge Behavioral Heath is working on renovations to the old city hall building.

Megan Durant, director of employment services, told Cambridge City Council Cedar Ridge will build an alternative school that consists of two classrooms, among other things, within the building. They open to have the school open in August. Durant also touched on programs they offer, such as jobs training, interview skills and summer work programs.

In other council news:

  • Council voted to appoint the city law director Bill Ferguson as the regional rep to the OneOhio Recovery Foundation. OneOhio is the board appointed to discuss the opioid manufacturers' lawsuit settlement for city's throughout the state.

  • Cambridge Fire Department will apply for a Safer Grant in September. If awarded next May the grant would pay for 100% of the employee cost including salary, worker comp, health insurance, Medicare and retirement for three years, according to Cheif Jeff Deek, who is hoping the grant would cover three employees.

  • Mayor Tom Orr said due to the amount of rain lately the city is running a little behind on mowing but a lot of that would be done in the next several days. He also said the city behind in picking up sticks residents place on the the curbs due to recent storms.

  • Secret Santa requested permission to conduct a Christmas in July boot drive on July 1, stating since the pandemic the need for assistance has been greater than ever. The organization also noted this was not intended to replace the boot drives held in November and December.

Cambridge City Council meetings are held at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Mondays of the month in Council Chambers at the City Administration Building. Council committees meet at 4:30 p.m. the first and third Mondays of each month at in Council Chambers. Residents are encourage to attend the committee meetings to see what council is working on before items are voted on during council meetings.
