Cat is city's second rabies case

Aug. 18—A rabid cat found in High Point is the eighth confirmed case of rabies in 2023, and the second in High Point.

The cat was found at Waverly Street and Carolina Street, which is near the High Point Greenway Trail north of East Lexington Avenue, the Guilford County Division of Public Health said.

In mid-June a rabid raccoon was found on Dillon Road in eastern High Point near Jamestown.

North Carolina law requires that all domestic pets (cats, dogs, and ferrets), whether living inside or outside, aged 4 months or older be vaccinated for rabies.

Rabies circulates within our wildlife population throughout the entire year. For information on rabies prevention, contact Guilford County Animal Services at 336-641-2506 or visitguilfordcountync.gov/our-county/animal-services.
