Less than 48 hours before their inaugural practice of the 2021 training camp, the Bucs have announced they’ve placed safety Jordan Whitehead on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Whitehead, who played in Super Bowl 55 with a torn labrum, did not attend the team’s ring ceremony Thursday evening at MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre or its visit earlier this week to the White House.

Per NFL and NFL Players Association policy, clubs are not permitted to comment on a player’s medical status other than referring to roster status. Clubs may not disclose whether a player is in quarantine or has tested positive for COVID-19.

Whitehead’s absence leaves the Bucs with six safeties — for now — for Sunday’s practice, though two spots on the 90-player camp roster are open. On Thursday, the team waived veteran Curtis Riley.
