Weymouth man dies while snorkeling in Florida

ISLAMORADA, Fla. − A Weymouth man died after he suffered a medical emergency while he was on a snorkeling tour in the Florida Keys, according to authorities.

Patrick Alan Martinec, 61, of North Weymouth, was snorkeling with Sundance Watersports when he began signaling for help in the water at about 2:20 p.m. Saturday on Alligator Reef off the coast of Islamorada, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Martinec was brought back to the Sundance Watersports boat, where the crew began CPR and brought him ashore. He was taken to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier, where he was pronounced dead.

The sheriff's office said autopsy results are pending, but foul play is not expected to be a factor in Martinec's death.
