Pavel Buchnevich has one guarantee from the Blues: There will be discussions about a contract extension. Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said so after the trade deadline, and he reiterated that point two weeks ago when he spoke to reporters at his year-end news conference. If I was Pavel, I'd want to sit with the manager and talk to him. Buchnevich said he would welcome the talks, particularly after a few months of trade rumors around the deadline when he was perhaps one of the top wingers on the market and a desire for other fan bases across the league.
As the Blues cleaned out their stalls and packed up for the summer, the ifs and buts were in season. The laments over the three losses to San Jose were fresh. St. Louis wondered what its season would have been like without those results. “I think (why) we feel good about our team is we played with the top teams, we beat the top teams all year long,” Blues captain Brayden Schenn said.
In today's NHL rumors rundown, the Anaheim Ducks have an offseason plan and their GM isn't afraid to share that plan. Meanwhile, William Nylander is practicing again for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The St. Louis Blues intend to extend Pavel Buchnevich, and will the Montreal Canadiens take a big swing at forward? According to the official X.com account for the Anaheim Ducks, “Ducks GM Pat Verbeek in a season-ending media session says the team is pursuing both a top-six right shot forward and a top-four right shot defenseman this offseason.”
