A top head coaching candidate for next season is Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan, who has the team on top of half the NFL's 12 major defensive category rankings.

"I think Rex is as ready to be a head coach as anybody I've been around. We'll do everything we can to help him through that process," said coach Brian Billick.

Rex Ryan would make a fine head coach. There are bound to be at least a half-dozen vacancies come the off-season. But some of the jobs available are crapshoots, so he should really weigh his option before making a move. But he is deserving of a head coaching position.

As a dyed in the purple Ravens fan it will be hard to lose such a brilliant defensive coordinator. He has been an inspiration to both the offense and defense. I look forward to seeing Rex hoist the Lombardy trophy in Miami before he leaves the team. Good luck Rex. I'll be rooting for you except when your new team faces the Ravens. Thanks for the pleasure of watching your boys pull it off week after week.

say it aint so! i love rex. hes just such a smart, creative, and innovative coach. lets not forget that it was he that brought on the steeler package last season that made adalius thomas the most versatile player in the nfl. oh well. at least well get to lift the lombardi trophy before he leaves. billicks coaching tree gets bigger and bigger too. hes got marvin lewis, jack del rio, mike nolan, and soon to be rex ryan as successful head coaches in the nfl. on top of that, mike singletary, dennis thurman, donnie henderson, jeff fitzgerald, and clarence brooks will all be competing for head coaching jobs before long.

Did you really just say that Buddy Ryan was not a very good head coach? Wow, you don't really know much about his time with the Eagles. Not trying to be mean, that's just a very uniformed comment. He led a team that was nearly always in contention and did so under the wieght of very poor ownership. True, he bombed with the Cardinals, but so does everyone. The Cards probably actually have the worst ownership in the league, espicially during his tenure. Also, saying you wouldn't hire someone based on their father's record is laughable.

I'm thinking that Donnie Henderson might get a look as our new defensive coordinator if Rex leaves. Everyone loves Jeff FitzGerald, as do I. But with Detroit struggling so badly, methinks Billick might give Henderson a call if he Marinelli makes him the scapegoat. Rex is the last defensive coach left from the 2000 team. Billick might try to re-capture the magic by bringing Henderson in. I love Donnie by the way. He's got the attitude and the smarts to be a great coach in this league, and he proved that in New York when he was DC there.

I played for Rex Ryan at Morehead State University in the early 90's. Say I was crazy but I believed in Rex Ryan so much I picked Morehead over major D1 schools and I have never regreted it not one day. I learned so much from him that could write a book! He deserves a Head job, If he can convince a Blue Chip player from Tampa, FL to go Morehead, KY he can convince his team to win a Super Bowl believe me! Love you Coach Ryan.

Rex is better than any one we have out there . The truth is the Ravens would lose a good coach but if it is mean't to be, so be it. Good Luck Rex on whatever decision you make or any offer that may come your way.

chakazullo is full of crap. Teams take a coach on what they think they can do not what they look like. Weis got a very goog job, makes ton of money, and is still fat. Ryan would make a dang good coach. look what he has done. he should give it a try

Just as it was with Lewis, so shall it be with Ryan! Hopefully we fill his shoes as well as we did Lewis'. I'm not so sure he will have the same impact Lewis did in Cinci, but some team will have a good head coach for years to come....despite his father's results.

How about Rex coaching the Black & Gold. If Cower decides his performance this year is a symptom of his fading spirit, it would be a natural for a tuff nose defensive minded coach to be considered for the Steeler organization.
