NFL - Sports Rumors

According to ProFootballTalk.com the thrifty Cincinnati Bengals are actually giving consideration to hiring a full-time, football-knowledgeable, general manager.

The fine folks at WhoDeyRevolution.com have been trying their damnedest to persuade Bengals president Mike Brown to hire a General Manager. Regardless of whether the billboards and the urinal cakes have had any impact on Brown, there's talk that the franchise is considering exactly such a move, the site reported.

The first name tied to the Bengals, is apparently Randy Mueller. The former Saints and Dolphins G.M. currently works in the Chargers' front office, and Mueller's star is ascending again because of the resurgence of the Dolphins. Though most of the credit for Miami's performance will go to Parcells, Ireland, and Sparano, a lot of the players were brought to town with the involvement of Mueller.

just when you think it cant get any worse then the bengals....they go and possibly offer the job to randy mueller. this guy screwed up every draft pick with the dolphins. bengals at least draft decent players, now you will both suck on the field and in the drafts!

Will Mike Brown actually want to give up control, or will a new GM really be a puppet (ala the Raiders)? If it's the latter, then it doesn't matter who it is, the results will be the same.

Wait a minute there Mikey! Mueller was part of the Seahawks front office before they became good under Holmgren. Mueller ran the Saints and they only had one decent year under him. Mueller's bad moves with the Dolphins resulted in a 1-15 year. And this year Mueller's limited influence has helped produce a team that may make the playoffs at 8-8. Mikey, you do need a GM, but not this guy.

The Bungholes will blow this like they do with every major decision. The are the Lions of the AFC, ownership does not believe in letting those who know make the decisions.

Take it from a Dolphins fan who suffered the Mueller years...............you dont want this to happen. There was a reason the Dolphins sucked all those years....and he was part, a big part, of the reason. The Bengals need to do what Wayne Huizinga (dolphins owner) finally woke up and did...................hire a solid football expert to be the VP. There are a lot of good veteran ex coaches out there who would do well in this role for the Bengals. I hope for your sake you dont get Mueller. He's better off retired.

Well, that's a step in the right direction. This may not be our guy, but at least M Brown may realize he doesn't know football and is willing to let someone help out in the decision making process that does know a little.

I tend to agree with skyblu513, this is a bad move to hire a bad GM to prove his point that the Bengals don't need a GM. The only way the Bengals will EVER return to competitive football is if Brown dies, or has a debilitating stroke. He'll never give up control of the football operations completely. This guy will be a puppet on Brown's string.

I'm not sure what to make of this. Even if this guy has a bad track record as a GM, it would still be an amazing shift for Mike Brown, who I didn't think was ever going to do anything that would admit he needs help. I'd love to get a Parcells type, but that's not likely, and even an up and comer would be nice if they would let him take the reins. Of course, I think we have the cart ahead of the horse, since this is just a rumor. I'll believe it when I see it, which better be soon, because when season ticket renewals go out this winter a whole lot of people need to see some real change!

Its been a long time coming for a change in Cincy but this isnt the change thats needed, this is mikey's business not his love, he makes serious jack off of this franchise and he isnt going to blow his money on hiring a gm at least a good one which would mean a lot of money. Lets be realistic he makes money wether the bengals win or lose and as long as he keeps counting money we the fans are screwed. NFL put a dispersal of tv revenue to amount of wins a team gets then see Mikey scramble to get a winner in here until then we will never have a solid foundation for a team as long as he is here.

A new opinion/outlook will be essential to getting players who can play. It can't help but improve the personnel management of the Bengals. The good news about this season is that the bengals have found a lot of player who can or will play hard.
