Jets interested in Willie McGinest?

With Calvin Pace(notes) out for the first four games of the season after failing a drug test and the team still uncertain about former No.1 pick Vernon Gholston(notes), the New York Jets may consider adding veteran Willie McGinest(notes), according to the NFL Network.

Profootballtalk.com suggest the Jets could add McGinest for the first four games of the season, however, since McGinest is a vested veteran, he'd be entitled to receive his full salary as termination pay, if he's on the opening-day roster and if he's cut after Pace returns.

So the cheaper alternative would be to carry a guy who otherwise would have been dumped before the season started, and to drop him behind Vernon Gholston on the depth chart while Pace is gone, according to Profootballtalk.com.

They must have a lot of faith in Gholston if they're wanting to add McGinest to replace Pace.

The Jets have bigger worries than LB. If anyone can get Gholston to play up to his billing it's coach Ryan. With no clear starting QB and the loss of their best receiver by far, their biggest question marks are on offense.

My worry isn't on defense because Ryan is the coach. They really need a receiver who can stretch the field and I get nervous with all the talk that we might be ok with what he have. They have a clear QB in Sanchez who will have the job sooner than later.

Willie's is done. He didn't do much in Cleveland. But like most players that haven't done crap in Cleveland he will go to the Jets and win a SuperBowl. That's Cleveland's luck.

We have depth at LB, but to say LB isn't a need with Calvin Pace out for four games is silly. Pace is our best LB, and is a huge loss. I'd love to see Willie McGinest in Jet Green for the first few games, with Gholston in as a situational pass rusher, to ease him into the defense. As much as Ryan may cater to Gholston this offseason, I highly doubt Gholston is ready to start the first four games. Especially not with lazy Bryan Thomas as the other OLB.

Let me just say...why wouldn't it be good to get the giants ex' receiver- what's his name? If at all we need is a special type of gun on the field..opps,i ment running from a gun type speed, try getting him instead of waiting for the Championship Ring to Magically Appear!! Please,Stop listening to your fake moral judgement determining if he's a distraction or a risk. Are we saying he's going to shoot the teammates? NO, because he doesn't have anger problems like that and beside all the (boo whoo)mess thats going on in the world,it's not like he went out looking to harm anyone cause we all know the story how an why he held it. WOODY,GO GET YOUR TROUPHY! THINK ABOUT IT,NO ONES PERFECT WITH A TROUPHY. THIS SOUNDS LIKE SEASON TICKETS FOR SOLIDMAN372003@YAHOO.COM

Willie McGinest is a perfect veteran to bring in he has years of experience in the 3-4 defense and could help the development of Vernon Gholston. I doubt he would be a starter but he could easily be the perfect back-up for Gholston. The cheaper approach isn't always the way to win games.
