Saints GM Mickey Loomis confirmed Champ Bailey was signed to play cornerback. Wed, Apr 9 Rotoworld
CB Champ Bailey agreed to a two-year contract with the New Orleans Saints Friday (April 4). Bailey, 35, has been named to the Pro Bowl 12 times, but the Denver Broncos released him after the 2013 season. A foot injury limit his effectiveness last season while he played in only five games. He started three games and played in all three playoff games, including one start. "We are excited to be able to add a future Hall of Fame player with the addition of Champ Bailey," Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said in a statement. "His career accomplishments mirror that of his high character and he's a very prideful and competitive player who we believe will add to our defense. Having spent time with him recently and in our discussions with him, I know that he's thrilled to be joining the New Orleans Saints and starting a new chapter in his professional life." Bailey has said he would be willing to play safety for another team, but the Saints need help at corner. They signed Jairus Byrd for a safety spot alongside Kenny Vaccaro, but they were looking for a corner after releasing Jabari Greer. Bailey said, "We're all on the same page and we all have the same goal in mind and that's to win a championship. The Saints are very close. You look at, coach Payton took a year off, came back and they got in the playoffs, and won a game. They're very close. I think any time you have a guy like Drew Brees calling the shots on offense, you're always going to have a shot. Then, you put a good defense in with that and you give yourself a better shot. They've got all the pieces, so hopefully I'm another piece to help them get to where we want to go." Despite the fact he will be 36 in June, Bailey said, "I have a little more to my game, I believe, especially mentally. I can see things a lot easier, a lot of things come up that I've had experience with. That only helps your game." Sun, Apr 6 Sportsxchange
