MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings

There was more turnover this week in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard than any previous week.

Six new teams enter the rankings, a result of the outcomes of numerous playoff games of great significance around the country.

Teams from Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Louisiana entered the rankings this week. Also making its debut was Eastside Catholic, which stunned Bellevue in the Washington Class 3A final, snapping Bellevue's 67-game winning streak.

St. Peter's Prep, ranked No. 25 last week, soars to No. 10 after a convincing victory over Paramus Catholic to capture a Non-Public Group IV state title.

Tate Martell, Bishop Gorman


1. (1) Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), 15-0
Bishop Gorman defeated Reed 70-28 to capture a Division I state title.

2. (2) Allen (Texas), 14-0
Allen held off powerful Euless Trinity team, 30-27.

3. (3) De La Salle (Concord, Calif.), 12-0
The Spartans downed Pittsburg 35-0 to finish unbeaten.

4. (4) Washington (Miami), 14-0
The Tornadoes beat Bolles to capture a 4A state title and advance its win streak to 40 games.

5. (6) Folsom (Calif.), 14-0
Folsom blasted Tracy 55-7 as Jake Browning set the all-time passing touchdowns mark.

Brandon Wimbush, St. Peter's Prep


6. (7) Colquitt County (Moultrie, Ga.), 14-0
The Packers routed McEachern 57-20 to advance to the Class AAAAAA state title game.

7. (8) Skyline (Dallas), 14-0
Skyline continues to win. This week Klein Oak fell victim to its high-powered offense, as Skyline won 38-20.

8. (9) South Panola (Batesville, Miss.), 15-0
On Sunday, South Panola defeated Oak Grove to capture a Class 6A state title.

9. (15) Clay-Chalkville (Pinson, Ala.), 15-0
Clay-Chalkville closed its season with a 6A title by beating Saraland 36-31.

10. (25) St. Peter's Prep (Jersey City, N.J.), 11-1

St. Peter's Prep dominated Paramus Catholic 34-18 to capture the Non-Public Group IV state title.

11. (16) Central (Miami), 13-1

Central hung on to defeat Mainland 31-21 to advance to the Class 6A title game.

12. (14) Buford (Ga.), 14-0
Buford blasted Cartersville to advance to its eighth-consecutive title game.

13. (17) Bingham (South Jordan, Utah), 13-1
Season Over; UHSAA 5A state champions

14. (19) Chandler (Ariz.), 14-0

Season Over; AIA Division I state champions

15. (20) St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 13-1

The Raiders showed once again that they are very difficult to defeat in December. They blasted East Lake 45-7.

Sammonte Booker, Centennial


16. (21) St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio), 12-2

St. Edward, Ohio's preseason favorite, took home the Division I title with a victory over Wayne.

17. (22) Centennial (Corona, Calif.), 12-2
The Huskies hung on to defeat St. John Bosco, 48-41.

18. (5) St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.), 13-2
St. John Bocso lost to Centennial 48-41 in the Pac 5 final.

19. (NR) Cedar Hill (Texas), 12-2
Cedar Hill dispatched of Southlake Carroll, 62-42, to reach the Class 6A-II semifinals.

20. (NR) Eastside Catholic (Sammamish, Wash.), 13-1
Jeremy Thielbahr's squad stunned Bellevue 35-13 to win the Class 3A state title and end Bellevue's 35-game win streak.

21. (NR) Katy (Texas), 13-1
Katy looked outstanding in a dominant 45-17 win over Manvel.

22. (NR) La Salle (Cincinnati), 14-1
LaSalle trounced Nordonia 55-20 to win the Division 2 state title. Its only loss of the season was a three-point defeat to St. Xavier.

23. (24) Maryville (Tenn.), 15-0

Legendary head coach George Quarles guided Maryville to another state title, as the team beat Ravenwood 35-34.

24. (NR) Destrehan (La.), 14-0

Destrehan knocked off West Monroe 27-22 to set up a showdown with Acadiana.

25. (NR) Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, Va.), 14-0

Ocean Lakes drilled Oscar Smith 49-28 and will take on Centreville in the Class 6A final.
