North Carolina went into the spring with building a running game as a high priority, and it would appear the Tar Heels were successful at that.

After finding a jewel in Greg Little last year when he moved from wide receiver to start the last two games at tailback, the Heels added some depth at the position with the emergence of redshirt freshmen Ryan Houston and Devan Ramsey and sophomore Anthony Elzy.

With sophomore Johnny White now playing in the secondary, Elzy is the Heels' leading returning rusher with 321 yards. Little had 300 yards in his brief appearances in the backfield.

Coach Butch Davis praised the progress they made in the spring.

The interesting competition when fall camps open could be at quarterback.
