    U.S. stocks ended lower on Tuesday as markets weighed economic data showing rising labor costs and deteriorating consumer confidence on the eve of a key Federal Reserve policy meeting to decide the direction of interest rates. Data showed on Tuesday that U.S. labor costs rose by a more-than-expected 1.2% last quarter, indicating an uptick in wage pressures. A survey also found that U.S. consumer confidence worsened in April, dropping to its lowest level in more than 1-1/2 years.

    First trial over Zantac cancer claims set to begin in Chicago

    The first trial over claims that blockbuster heartburn drug Zantac, once sold by GSK and other companies, causes cancer is set to begin this week in Chicago. Jury selection began on Tuesday before Judge Daniel Trevino of the Circuit Court of Cook County, with lawyers' opening statements expected to follow. The plaintiff, 89-year-old Illinois resident Angela Valadez, alleges in her lawsuit that she developed colorectal cancer as a result of taking over-the-counter Zantac and generic versions of it from 1995 to 2014.
