How major US stock indexes fared Monday, 5/20/2024
U.S. stock indexes drifted to a mixed finish after a quiet day of trading, and the Nasdaq composite rose to another record. The Russell 2000 index of smaller companies rose 6.78 points, or 0.3%, to 2,102.50.

Two top editors at Penguin Random House are leaving as the country's leading trading publisher continues to transform during a period of uncertain revenues and generational change. The Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group, a Penguin Random House division, announced Monday the departures of Alfred A. Knopf publisher Reagan Arthur and Pantheon/Schocken publisher Lisa Lucas. Knopf and Pantheon/Schocken are two of the industry's most established literary publishers and Arthur and Lucas two of the most widely liked editors.

Amal Clooney is one of the legal experts who recommended that the chief prosecutor of the world's top war crimes court seek arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and leaders of the militant Hamas group. The human rights lawyer and wife of actor George Clooney wrote of her participation in a letter posted Monday on the website of the couple's Clooney Foundation for Justice.
