Outfielder Preston Wilson(notes) hasn't been out on a major-league field since 2007 but he apparently thinks he's ready to do it again. ESPN is reporting that Wilson is trying to make a comeback.
When Wilson stopped playing due to knee problems but he's saying that's all over. That last year, he only got up to the plate 68 times for the St. Louis Cardinals, hitting .219. His lack of playing time was due to a knee injury that earned him a release at season's end.
The 35-year-old's competitive juices must have started flowing again last season when he played 48 games for the Long Island Ducks of the Independent Atlantic League. Wilson hit .302 and got himself a special welcome-back broken eye socket when he was hit by a pitch and he also got himself a separated shoulder on a slide.
He's only looking for a spring-training invite at this point.
