If Jason Bay(notes) passes his physical, he'll be keeping himself busy for the next few years in the heart of the order of the New York Mets. The deal has been reported to be $66 million for four years but Bay apparently could make $80 million over five, according to FanHouse.
The rumor is that Bay's vesting option for a fifth year is relatively attainable as long as he plays a certain number of games during the first four years of the contract. The fifth year is supposedly worth $17 million so that's pretty good incentive.
That $66 million number is believed to include a $3 million buyout for the fifth year.
