Things got more complicated late, but thanks to a ninth-inning rally, they got the result they wanted after all. Tyler O'Neill hit a walk-off bloop single that glanced off Dansby Swanson's glove as the Red Sox survived to beat the Cubs, 5-4, in the rubber game of a three-game series after usually-steady reliever Chris Martin blew a three-run lead in the eighth inning. The Red Sox won 5-4 over the Angels at Fenway Park. Manager Alex Cora had bulk reliever Chase Anderson warming behind Slaten in the eighth inning. Cora stuck with Slaten after Mike Trout led off the inning with a triple and scored on Taylor Ward's groundout to shortstop.
The Boston Red Sox shot off to a 5-0 lead against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night. After Casas' fifth-inning bomb, Baltimore made its way back into the race, with some help from the Red Sox.
