Player Notes
Alex Wood lost in tough fashion for the second straight start Tuesday, allowing one run over eight innings while striking out 11 batters in a loss to the Marlins.

Advice: We're getting tired of finding ways to say "Wood was terrific in a losing effort." After allowing one run in a complete game his last time out, Wood held the Marlins to just four hits in his eight innings Tuesday. Unfortunately, two of those hits were a Giancarlo Stanton double followed by a Casey McGehee single, leading to the only run of the game. Wood didn't walk a batter while striking out 11, and he's now got a 35/7 K/BB ratio over 35 innings. He's been one of the best pitchers in the early part of the season; the wins will come. He'll have another shot at the Marlins next Tuesday.

Alex Wood took the complete game loss Thursday after giving up one run in eight innings against the Phillies.

Advice: Wood held the Phillies scoreless over the first seven innings, but Ben Revere got to him with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. It was enough to put the young left-hander on the losing side. Wood struck out seven and walked one in the tough-luck loss. Through four starts, he owns a 1.67 ERA and 24/7 K/BB ratio in 27 innings. Many thought a breakout season was possible this year, but he is exceeding expectations thus far.
