Player Notes
Michael Wacha said that he felt no pain in his arm during Wednesday's bullpen.

Advice: Wacha has been throwing side sessions this month and is hoping that he has built up enough strength that the recurring shoulder injuries which have bit him in the past are just that, a thing of the past. Said the 25-year-old right-hander, "My arm feels like it's able to move freely and without any pain, and it's working the right way. I'm really happy with the way it's going, the way I'm bouncing back and recovering." With top prospect Alex Reyes set to undergo Tommy John surgery, Wacha's health entering the 2017 campaign is going to be crucial for the Cards. Club general manager John Mozeliak indicated on Tuesday that so long as Wacha can maintain his health, he will likely be in the rotation come April. In 138 innings this past season, he held a disappointing 5.09 ERA.

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Tuesday that Michael Wacha is likely to be in the team's rotation "if he's physically able."

Advice: Top prospect Alex Reyes was sent for an MRI on his elbow on Tuesday and the fear is that he could need Tommy John surgery, so suddenly Wacha appears to be a strong favorite for a rotation spot. The 25-year-old dealt with a recurrence of a shoulder issue last season while struggling to the tune of a 5.09 ERA and 114/45 K/BB ratio over 138 innings. He enters 2017 as a major question mark. Luke Weaver could be an alternative if things go south again.

Michael Wacha lost his arbitration hearing against the Cardinals.

Advice: Wacha filed for a $3.2 million salary back in January, but he'll make the $2.775 million figure which was proposed by the Cardinals. The 25-year-old was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter after posting a 5.09 ERA and 114/45 K/BB ratio over 138 innings last season. He appeared to be on the outside looking in for a rotation spot this spring, but that could change depending on Alex Reyes' health.
