Player Notes
Matt Harvey (elbow) is expected to make his first Grapefruit League start on March 6.

Advice: It's a home game in Port St. Lucie, Florida against the visiting Tigers. Harvey is 16 months removed from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery and should be a full-go when the 2015 regular season opens, though the Mets will probably limit his workload in some fashion after he missed all of 2014. Harvey can still be a top-tier fantasy starter even if he only logs 160-170 innings this summer. The 25-year-old right-hander owns a fantastic 2.39 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 261/57 K/BB ratio in 237 2/3 major league frames.

Matt Harvey (elbow) will throw his first batting practice session Friday.

Advice: Harvey recently incorporated curveballs and sliders into his throwing sessions as he continues to progress from Tommy John surgery. Now he's ready to make the next step. As of now, the Mets are planning on Harvey being a full-go when the season begins. We wouldn't be surprised if it takes the Mets' ace some time to get back to his usual dominant self, as we have seen with other pitchers in the past, but it's worth noting that he is 16 months removed from surgery.

Matt Harvey threw curveballs and sliders Sunday for the first time since having Tommy John surgery.

Advice: He could also have another "first" later this week when he possibly faces hitters. Harvey's rehab has progressed as hoped to this point and he's expected to open the season in the Mets' rotation. General manager Sandy Alderson said recently that Harvey could throw as many as 200 innings should the Mets make the playoffs.

Mets manager Terry Collins indicated Saturday that Matt Harvey will open the season in the Mets rotation and he will make his debut within the first five games.

Advice: Collins also noted that there is no plan to skip any of Harvey's starts, which gives traction to general manager Sandy Alderson's comments from yesterday that it's possible Harvey could reach the 200 inning plateau in 2015. While expectations should be tempered on the talented young right-hander as he returns from Tommy John surgery, it appears as there will be no limitations on his workload.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Friday that it's possible Matt Harvey will get to 200 innings in 2015, "including (the) playoffs."

Advice: The club will monitor the right-hander's workload as he returns from Tommy John surgery, but it sounds like the innings limit won't be too strict. Harvey is now 16 months removed from the operation, so it's not as if the Mets are being reckless here. Fantasy owners shouldn't expect Harvey to regain his previous form right away, but it's certainly good news that he'll have a relatively substantial workload.

Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reports that "no decision has been made yet" on whether Matt Harvey will be held back to make his 2015 debut on April 13.

Advice: It's been the speculation for a while, as the move would help conserve Harvey's innings as he returns from Tommy John surgery and also put him in line to start the Mets' home opener. While the club might not be ready to make the decision official, it ultimately makes too much sense and remains likely to happen.
