Player Notes
Making his first start since being traded to the Giants, Mike Leake was saddled with a 2-1 loss after allowing two runs over 6 1/3 innings.

Advice: You only get one chance to make a first impression and, accordingly, Leake made sure his first start with the Giants was a good one. He scattered eight hits over 6 1/3 innings while striking out five and walking two. Both runs on his line came off the bat of Josh Hamilton, who launched a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Prior to the trade, Leake held a 3.56 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. He'll try for again for his first win in a Giant uniform when he faces off against the Cubs at Wrigley in his next scheduled start.

Giants acquired RHP Mike Leake from the Reds in exchange for 1B Adam Duvall and RHP Keury Mella.

Advice: The Giants were unable to land the frontline starter they sought, but Leake isn't a bad backup plan. The right-hander boasts a 3.56 ERA on the season and has put up a 2.59 mark since the beginning of June. He'll bump Tim Hudson to the bullpen.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Giants have agreed to a deal with the Reds for Mike Leake.

Advice: The Reds will receive minor leaguers Keury Mella and Adam Duvall in return. The Giants get the rotation help that they so desperately coveted without having to sacrifice their entire future. It's also a huge win for Mike Leake, who gets to pitch in his home state while moving from one of the top offensive parks in the league to a pitcher's paradise in San Francisco.

Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports that the Reds are in active discussions with the Reds about acquiring right-hander Mike Leake.

Advice: The Giants have been mentioned as possible suitors for nearly every starting pitcher on the market thus far, they simply haven't had the necessary pieces to land any of the top options. They could have enough to get Leake though, and he would certainly help to add stability to the back of their rotation as they attempt to defend their World Series title.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Mike Leake is one of the starters the Blue Jays are considering.

Advice: Rosenthal says that the Jays' targets are "all at similar talent levels," which suggests that they aren't in the market for an ace if they're considering Leake. Toronto is "looking for the best acquisition cost," Rosenthal adds. Leake certainly didn't hurt his trade value with eight shutout innings against the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Mike Leake threw eight shutout innings in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals.

Advice: In what was possibly his last start as a member of the Reds, Leake showed off for potential suitors. The right-hander scattered four hits and a walk over eight innings, striking out three. It was his fourth straight start allowing zero or one run, improving to 9-5 with a 3.56 ERA and 1.15 WHIP on the year. In the event Leake survives the trade deadline as a member of the Reds, he'll take on the Pirates on Sunday.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Tigers have Reds right-hander Mike Leake on their radar.

Advice: The Tigers are three games under .500 at 48-51, but they are just 4 1/2 games out of the Wild Card and haven't given up on the possibility of contention. Leake would certainly help their rotation. The 27-year-old owns a 3.78 ERA over 20 starts this season and has been on a roll of late. The impending free agent figures to draw a lot of interest.
