Advice: Span's surgery is scheduled for Tuesday. He should be fully healed by spring training. The 31-year-old remains a solid leadoff hitter when healthy and should be one of the more coveted outfielders in free agency this winter. Bryce Harper and Michael Taylor have filled in at center field during his absence.

Advice: He also revealed that it will be to repair Span's labrum, which has been bothering the outfielder for a while. The Nats think the hip issue is connected to the core and back problems Span was plagued by this season. It's a really tough break for Span, as he's slated to hit free agency in a couple months. The timetable for his recovery should be known after Tuesday's procedure.Rotoworld
Advice: Span has just never been fully healthy all season. He had his first core muscle surgery last December, came back too soon and then required a second procedure in March. He then made a quick recovery from that to return in mid-April, but he then dealt with back and more recently hip issues for the bulk of the campaign. The type of operation he'll have Tuesday isn't known yet, but hopefully it will finally nip is health issues in the bud. Span's Nationals career could be over, as he's slated for free agency this winter. The Nats will go with Michael Taylor in center field for the rest of the season, assuming his knee injury is minor as expected.Rotoworld
Advice: The hip issue is related to the core and back issues that have sidelined Span already this season. At this point, there is fear in the Nationals organization that the oft-injured outfielder will not make it back at all this season. Michael Taylor will continue to fill in center field in his stead.Thu, Aug 27 Rotoworld
Advice: It doesn't sound like a major concern, but the Nationals will have to manage him down the stretch. Michael Taylor is starting in center field against the Padres.

Advice: It's just a day of rest for the veteran outfielder, who returned earlier this week from a bad back injury. Michael Taylor is starting in center field against the Padres.

Advice: Span has been sidelined since July 6 with a nagging back injury, but he showed enough over six rehab games to convince the Nationals that he's ready to go. He's batting leadoff in his return Tuesday against the Padres. The veteran outfielder has played well when healthy this season, but he's only appeared in 59 games.Tue, Aug 25 Rotoworld
Advice: Span was 7-for-17 (.412) with a home run, three walks and three runs scored in six rehab games with High-A Potomac. The veteran outfielder has dealt with a nagging back injury since June but is feeling well enough to give it a go again. He's hit .304/.367/.430 with five homers and 11 steals in 59 games this season.

Advice: Span is 7-for-17 (.412) with a home run, three walks, and three runs scored since beginning his rehab with High-A Potomac last week. The center fielder could be added back to the Nationals' active roster as early as Tuesday and is capable of providing significant fantasy production down the stretch. Span owns a .304/.367/.430 slash line with five homers, 37 runs, 15 doubles, and 11 steals in 59 games this season.
