The Red Sox placed Buchholz on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday due to a broken nail on his right middle finger. Advice: Buccholz struggled in his last start on Monday, and didn't make it out of the fifth inning as the visiting Red Sox fell, 7-3, to Minnesota. He was also plagued by control issues as he walked a season-high five batters. The injury may have played a part in that lackluster performance. |

RHP Clay Buchholz was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday afternoon with a torn right middle fingernail, and the Sox summoned OF Jonathan Van Every to take his place on the 25-man roster. The 23-year-old righty had divulged the injury on Tuesday evening, but the Sox were hoping that the youngster would be able to make his scheduled Sunday start. Instead the Sox will now have a need for a fifth starter after designating RHP Julian Tavarez for assignment. Class-AA Portland (ME) starter RHP Justin Masterson, Class-AAA Pawtucket (RI) RHP David Pauley and rehabbing RHP Bartolo Colon remain possibilities to fill his spot in the rotation.
