Player Notes
Phil Hughes allowed four runs on eight hits over five-plus innings against the Blue Jays and was saddled with his first loss in a Twins uniform Tuesday.

Advice: Hughes was rolling right along until the sixth inning, when he allowed the first four batters to reach base. All four came around to score -- two after Hughes had exited the game -- marring what had been an otherwise positive performance for the right-hander. The fact that it was Hughes' first loss as a member of the Twins speaks less to his prior effectiveness as it does to his run support in those outings, though, as it was his third straight start allowing four runs. On a brighter note, he did strike out seven batters over his five innings, giving him a 17/5 K/BB ratio over 15 innings thus far. Hughes will continue looking for his first win of the season in Sunday's tilt at the Royals.

Phil Hughes allowed four runs over five innings for the second straight start in Wednesday's loss to the Athletics.

Advice: Hughes suffered through a nightmarish first inning, as he had allowed six baserunners to reach and four of them to score before recording an out. He actually pitched pretty well after that, but the damage had already been done and he was removed after throwing 104 pitches. Hughes will again look for his first Twins' win next week against the Blue Jays.
