Player Notes
Dodgers acquired C Carlos Ruiz and cash from the Phillies in exchange for C A.J. Ellis, RHP Tommy Bergjans and a player to be named later.

Advice: Ruiz had been with the Phillies since 2006. He hit .266 with 68 HR and 401 RBI during that span while making it to the World Series in 2008 and 2009. The 37-year-old will slide in as Yasmani Grandal's backup with Ellis filling a similar role in Philadelphia behind Cameron Rupp. With Ruiz gone, Ryan Howard is the lone holdover from Philadelphia's World Series team in '08. He might be gone soon as well.

Carlos Ruiz and Ryan Howard have cleared waivers, according to ESPN's Jayson Stark.

Advice: Which means they can now be traded to any team. Stark hears that two clubs are mulling Ruiz, but Howard is virtually certain to remain in Philadelphia. Ruiz, 37, has batted .261/.368/.352 with three home runs and 12 RBI in 48 games this season with the Phillies. He will be a free agent this winter.
