Player Notes
Felix Hernandez impressed in Wednesday's start against the Rangers, allowing one run over seven innings in the Mariners' loss.

Advice: Fernandez allowed four hits, walked one, and struck out nine in yet another quality outing. The right-hander took the hill to start the eighth, but was pulled after allowing a lead-off triple to Leonys Martin, who would later score the Rangers' first run. Fernandez lost what would have been his fourth win in as many opportunities when Fernando Rodney blew the save in the ninth. King Felix will face the Astros in his next start.

Felix Hernandez struck out 11 while allowing two runs in seven-plus innings Friday in a win over the A's.

Advice: Manager Lloyd McClendon had little reason to send Hernandez back out for the eighth having already thrown 100 pitches in a 6-0 game, but he did and it nearly cost him big-time. Hernandez hit the first batter he faced and then gave up a single before being pulled. The Mariners ended up using four pitchers and giving up four runs in the frame, with two of the runs being charged to King Felix. Fortunately, Fernando Rodney shut the door from there in the ninth, giving Hernandez his third win in three starts.
