Player Notes
Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said Monday that Felix Hernandez (hip) is "fine" and will be ready to make his next scheduled start on Friday in Boston.

Advice: Hernandez made an early exit from his last outing after being hit in the hip by a comebacker. There wasn't much doubt that he'd be ready to go for his next start, but it's good to have confirmation. "He's fine," McClendon said. "He may push [his bullpen] back. I'm not sure. Sometimes he pushes it back, sometimes he doesn't even throw. But he's fine."

Felix Hernandez pitched five innings and allowed seven hits and two runs to the Tigers before exiting Saturday's game.

Advice: Hernandez was seen limping a little after being hit in the hip by a grounder in the fourth inning. He came back out to pitch the fifth and completed that frame before being pulled from the game. He had won nine starts in a row against the Tigers prior to losing to David Price on Saturday. The Tigers managed to work up Hernandez's pitch count, as he'd already thrown over eighty pitches by the time he was out of the fourth inning. Hernandez allowed an RBI groundout in the third and a Nick Castellanos solo home run in the fourth. Consider the Cy Young-contender (1.99 ERA, 0.87 WHIP) to be day-to-day for the time being.

Felix Hernandez fired seven innings of one-run ball, scattering three hits, on Monday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: The poor, poor Blue Jays. King Felix was the third straight Cy Young winner Toronto had faced after seeing Detroit's David Price and Max Scherzer over the weekend (to say nothing of Sunday's 19-inning marathon). Somehow, the Jays managed to beat both Tigers' aces, but their luck ran out tonight. Hernandez vanquished some demons, as Toronto is one of the few teams in the game he had struggled against in his career, entering 4-5 with a 4.95 ERA, including a 10.80 ERA in three outings at Safeco Field. Now 13-3 with a 1.95 ERA, the Cy Young frontrunner takes on the Tigers this weekend.
