2B Rickie Weeks, who had wrist surgery last May that forced him to miss the rest of the 2009 season, was examined by team physician William Raasch and given a clean bill of health. Weeks is not expected to be restricted in any way during workouts when spring training begins. |

Brewers manager Ken Macha said that Weeks would be his leadoff hitter if he had to fill out a lineup card right now, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports. Recommendation: Before having season-ending wrist surgery, Weeks was well on his way to a career-best season with nine homers and a .272 average through 37 games. In the best-case scenario, you might get 120-125 games from him (something he's offered just twice in five full MLB seasons), but given the low cost and the high upside at a position that lacks talent later in fantasy drafts, Weeks is worth the risk. Setting the table for a potent Milwaukee offense, Weeks should be a viable source of runs scored and steals in addition to a surprising amount of pop. Just be sure to expect something closer to the .240-.250 range for his batting average, as Weeks' .272 last season was driven by a slightly inflated .313 BABIP. |
