Thornton will revert to a setup role with Addison Reed earning the club's official closer title, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Recommendation: Manager Robin Ventura had employed a "closer by committee" in name only the past few weeks, as Reed received all of the save opportunities over that stretch. Thornton's value has been on the decline the past few seasons, and his K/9 currently sits at a rate half of what it was in 2010 (6.4 in 2012 vs 12.0 in 2010).
