D-Backs manager Kirk Gibson reaffirmed Putz's status as the team's closer Wednesday, the Arizona Republic reports.
Recommendation: Pitch location has been the biggest issue for Putz recently, as he's regained the velocity that was missing from his fastball earlier this season. For now, Putz will continue to take the ball in the ninth inning while David Hernandez and Bryan Shaw will remain in setup roles.

RHP J.J. Putz failed to convert a save for the third time in 12 chances this season when he gave up a two-out, two-run double to Dodgers 2B Ivan De Jesus in the ninth inning. The bullpen gave up seven runs in the 8-7 loss while failing to hold a 6-1 lead. "Every loss is tough, but the way the offense battled for us to get runs, and for us to turn around and give it away is just unacceptable," Putz said.
