Player Notes
According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Brewers claimed first baseman Justin Morneau off waivers but were unable to work out a trade with the Rockies.

Advice: Morneau would have been a huge addition for the current National League Central leaders, but the Brewers don't have many intriguing pieces in their farm system and the Rockies were probably seeking a significant return given that Morneau is under contract through 2015 with a team-friendly option for 2016. Morneau, 33, is batting .317/.360/.500 with 14 home runs and 69 RBI in 112 games this season for Colorado.

Justin Morneau went 1-for-3 with a double, walk, RBI and run scored in Wednesday's loss to the Giants.

Advice: The Home Run Derby participant has only one homer in the second half, but has elevated the rest of his game to such a degree that he's actually been more valuable post-break than he was beforehand. Morneau is slashing .338/.413/.488 in the second half. If more of those doubles start landing over the fence, Morneau could have one monster stretch left in him this year. The veteran first baseman boasts a .317/.360/.500 batting line with 14 home runs and 69 RBI in 112 games this season.

Justin Morneau hit his 14th home run in Friday's tilt with the Marlins.

Advice: Morneau finished the game 2-for-4, driving in two with his third inning homer off of Henderson Alvarez. It was Morneau's first home run since the All Star break. Despite the lack of dingers in the second half of the season, Morneau actually has bettered his slashes across the board in the second half. Since the break, he's been hitting .353/.443/.515. The Rocky Mountain air is doing him well.
