Recommendation: Kotsay was removed from Boston's previous game when his calf tightened up on him.

OF/1B Mark Kotsay was removed for pinch-runner Jeff Bailey in the ninth inning of Wednesday's win over the Baltimore Orioles, and the Boston Globe reported that it was due to Kotsay's calf tightening up. Kotsay didn't seem to think the calf tweak was a big deal after Wednesday's extra-inning game was completed, but the Sox can't afford to suffer any more injuries to their depth at first base and third base. Kotsay suffered a setback during his April minor league rehab assignment when he strained his right calf, so the Sox will be keeping a close eye on the 33-year-old.
