OF Mark Kotsay was signed to a one-year deal as the organization listened to its manager's wishes. It was manager Ozzie Guillen who insisted on several occasions that he wanted Kotsay on his bench heading into the 2010 season. He was to be a free agent this off-season, and the two sides agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million contract. The versatile Kotsay gives Guillen a backup first baseman, an outfielder to rotate around and more important, a team leader. |

Kotsay re-signed with the White Sox on Thursday, one year for $1.5 million, ESPN-AM 1000 in Chicago reports. Recommendation: The White Sox like Kotsay as a nice number four outfielder who they can use to give a breather for their starters and a left-handed bat off the bench. The 33-year-old Kotsay hit .278 with four home runs and 23 RBI in 67 games combined with Boston and the White Sox last season. Chicago acquired him from the Red Sox on July 28 in exchange for outfielder Brian Anderson. In 40 games with the White Sox, the left-handed hitting Kotsay batted .292 with three home runs and 18 RBIs. |
