DH Mike Sweeney, who had arthroscopic surgery on both knees in June, ran for the first time on Saturday and he said it went well. Sweeney is eligible to come off the 60-day DL on July 28 and he said he expects to be ready or very close to ready at that point. The A's have lacked much right-handed threat with Frank Thomas (quadriceps) and Sweeney both out.
