1B Jason Giambi made two good defensive plays -- a diving catch in the first inning and a nice play on a groundout in the fifth -- to give Yankees starter Mike Mussina a boost. However, Giambi's .188 batting average leaves much to be desired. |

The Associated Press reports New York Yankees DH Jason Giambi was 2-for-4 with a solo home run Friday, May 9. The homer was his 184th with the Yankees, passing former Yankees OF Tommy Henrich and tying former Yankees OF Charlie Keller for 16th place in team history. |

Giambi went 2-for-4 and homered for the second straight game as the visiting Yankees fell, 6-5, to Detroit on Friday. Advice: Giambi hit his home run in the second, giving him 184 with the Yankees, passing Tommy Henrich and tying Charlie Keller for 16th place in team history. The first baseman has seven homers and 19 RBIs this season, but is batting just .178 (16-for-90) in 29 games. |
