DH Jim Thome drew a walk in the seventh inning, but it wasn't just another stroll for the veteran. With the base on balls, Thome climbed into sole possession of 12th place on the all-time walks list with 1,600. He had been tied with Stan Musial. Next up is Darrell Evans with 1,605. Thome went 2-for-2 with a homer and three RBI in Friday's loss to the Cubs. Recommendation: Despite being limited by road games in National League parks recently, Thome has homered five times in 44 (8.8 at-bats per homer) June at-bats after going deep eight times in his first 133 (16.6 at-bats per homer). He's shown a tendency in each of the last two seasons to begin hitting for more power after the calendar flips to June and it appears as though that trend may hold up again in 2009. |
