Man dies after vehicle crashes and catches on fire along Highway 50 near Sacramento

A man died Sunday morning after the vehicle he was driving rolled onto its side on Highway 50 and caught on fire.

The crash occurred around 10 a.m. near Rancho Cordova, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District Capt. Parker Wilbourn said.

The 52-year-old man was the only person in the vehicle, which ran into the metal base of a freeway sign, according to the California Highway Patrol.

He was trapped inside and died at the scene. His name had not been released Sunday afternoon and the crash remained under investigation.
