What’s the most popular restaurant in Iowa?

According to the online business rating aggregator Yelp, a café in Davenport won over the hearts of keyboard food critics. On the 10th anniversary of Yelp’s Top 100 US Restaurants list, the digital company announced that Café D’Marie in Davenport earned the No. 36 spot nationwide.

The restaurant from owner Dr. DeAnna Marie Walter and chef Rick Kimmel sits inside a Victorian house built in 1865 in the city's Gold Coast with a view of the Mississippi River.

Café D'Marie serves American dishes with a European flair. Diners can find quiche du jour, salads, and panini with cheddar, smoked Gouda and muenster or turkey and cranberry cream cheese. The restaurant touts a hummus wrap with veggies and a salad sandwich with tuna, sweet curry chicken or egg as options.

Diners can also order from a long list of lattes such as the signature honey bee that uses local honey as well as a snickerdoodle with cinnamon and caramel, grasshopper with chocolate and mint, Milky Way with chocolate and caramel, and snow peak with white chocolate, vanilla and almond.

Yelpers recommend the blueberry-feta vinaigrette, which is “unlike any other.” Fans of the restaurant recommend dishes such as the cream of asparagus soup (“heaven in a cup”) and baked goods (“Warm cookies + bread pudding = pure bliss,” Yelper Robert W. wrote).

“I love the eclectic style of this home-turned-restaurant!… (The owner’s) cream of mushroom soup is to die for. She made me one of the best grilled cheeses I have ever had! (And) don’t miss out on the blueberry vinaigrette,” said Yelper Keyawnia R.

No restaurants in Iowa made the list last year.

A news release from Yelp noted that the top spot was Los Angeles' Broken Mouth, a Hawaiian-Korean cafe that serves spam musubi (“sushi” with canned meat and purple rice) and meat jun, a traditional fried beef dish that "Yelpers say reminds them of home."
